Manair River Kakatiya Tank Heritage of Rajanna Sircilla
Contributed by Swadesi Knowledge Team
The Manair river flowing through Rajanna Sircilla was a key component of the Kakatiya dynasty's hydraulic infrastructure, with multiple large tanks constructed along its course to capture seasonal runoff. The tanks at Dharmapuri and Kondapochamma are among the surviving Kakatiya-era water bodies in the district. Mission Kakatiya — the Telangana government's programme to restore the state's 46,000 traditional water bodies — has prioritised Rajanna Sircilla's tanks, with community labour used for desiltation and bund restoration. The restored tanks recharge groundwater, support domestic water needs, and provide supplemental irrigation to adjacent agricultural land.
