Lambada and Tribal Folk Dance Traditions of Rajanna Sircilla

Contributed by Swadesi Knowledge Team

Rajanna Sircilla district has significant Lambada (Banjara) tribal populations who maintain their distinctive embroidered costume and Gusadi dance tradition. The Gusadi performed at Dasara — with its peacock feather headdresses, animal-hide costumes, and vigorous circular dance patterns — has earned national recognition at Republic Day cultural parades. Alongside Lambada traditions, the Koya tribal communities maintain Dhimsa performance traditions associated with forest deity festivals. The district's folk performance calendar follows the agricultural seasons — performances cluster around Sankranti, Ugadi, and Dasara when communities have leisure time after harvest.
