Panipat's blanket and shawl weaving sector combines power loom mills and a residual handloom sector that produces woollen, acrylic, and cotton-polyester blend blankets for government supply contracts — army, railways, and state welfare departments — as well as the open retail market. Handloom weavers in Panipat's older mohallas produce thick dhari floor mats and namda felt rugs alongside power-loom blankets.
