Nalgonda Pochampally Ikat Handloom Yadadri Temple Heritage

Nalgonda district is home to the Pochampally ikat weaving village (now part of the renamed Yadadri-Bhongir district) where the Nalgonda ikat tradition — silk and cotton fabric woven with the tied-and-dyed warp or weft threads (bandha) creating feather-edged patterns — has been practised by Padmasali and Devanga weavers for over 400 years. Pochampally ikat has GI status as one of Andhra Pradesh/Telangana's premier handloom traditions, and the village's weaver colony is promoted as an artisan heritage village by the Telangana tourism department. The district's Yadadri Lakshmi Narasimha temple near Bhongir has undergone a massive renovation under the Telangana government (2021) and has become one of South India's major pilgrimage destinations.
