Nagpur district in Maharashtra Vidarbha region produces the Nagpur Mandarin orange (Citrus reticulata), GI-certified and nationally famous for its thin peelable skin, sweet-tart juice, and seedless segments. Nagpur mandarin season runs from November to February. Over 100,000 farming families cultivate mandarin orchards in Nagpur, Amravati, and Wardha districts. Nagpur orange juice cooperative plants process millions of oranges in peak season. Direct export cooperatives air-freight Nagpur oranges to UAE, UK, and Singapore. The NAFED-linked orange cooperative in Katol taluk provides cold storage, grading lines, and advance payment to small orchardists. Nagpur mandarin zest and essential oil are increasingly extracted for flavour and cosmetic industries.
