Kolanupaka Chalukya-Style Temple Architecture Heritage of Karimnagar
Contributed by Swadesi Knowledge Team
Karimnagar district contains several temples displaying the vesara architectural style associated with the Early Chalukya and Rashtrakuta dynasties. The Kolanupaka Mahavishnu and Jain temple complex near Karimnagar is a particularly well-preserved example featuring a compact curvilinear sikhara and sophisticated stone carvings of apsaras, dwarpalas, and dikpalas. The complex also contains a famous Jain nude statue (Sheetalnatha) carved from a single white marble block, attesting to the region's historical religious pluralism. The temples date primarily to the 9th–10th centuries CE.
