Jalore Granite Quarry Sojat Henna Mehendi Rajasthan
Contributed by Swadesi Editorial Team
Jalore district in southern Rajasthan is the source of Jalore granite — a coarse-grained black, grey, or pink granite quarried from the Aravalli ranges and exported globally for construction and countertop use, competing with Rajasthan Red and Indian Black granites in the international stone trade. Sojat town in Pali district (adjacent to Jalore) is the world's largest henna (mehendi) market — the Sojat henna leaf market trades henna powder from the arid scrub henna bushes (Lawsonia inermis) cultivated by farming communities on the sandy soils of Pali-Jalore, producing the organic henna exported to the Middle East, Europe, and the US for hair dye and traditional bridal decoration. Jalore Fort on a granite hill is one of Rajasthan's seven UNESCO-nominated hill forts.
