Hisar Murrah Buffalo Breeding NDDB Haryana

Contributed by Swadesi Editorial Team

Hisar is the global reference centre for Murrah buffalo genetics, hosting the Livestock Research Station of the Haryana Agriculture University that maintains the world's most comprehensive Murrah breeding programme, selecting elite sires for artificial insemination across India and in export programmes to Brazil, Italy, and Bulgaria. Hisar's Murrah breed registry documents family histories of champion milking buffaloes that produce 12 to 20 litres of 7-8 percent fat milk per day — performance levels that international dairy science studies reference. The National Bureau of Animal Genetic Resources at Karnal and HAU Hisar have jointly characterised and conserved Murrah genetics as India's most economically valuable indigenous animal breed.
