Gurugram Aravalli Hills Biodiversity Ecology
Contributed by Swadesi Editorial Team
The Aravalli ridge running through Gurugram district is one of the world's oldest mountain ranges and one of Delhi NCR's last significant biodiversity refuges, supporting leopard, jackal, porcupine, monitor lizard, and over 200 bird species in scrub forest and rocky outcrops. The Aravalli Biodiversity Park in Gurugram, developed on degraded quarried land, has been restored through native plant planting and water harvesting, creating a functioning urban forest. The Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority's greenway corridor project aims to connect the Aravalli ridge through Gurugram's expansion to maintain wildlife movement between Haryana's Aravalli forest and the Sariska Tiger Reserve in Rajasthan.
