Bathinda Rose Floriculture Malwa Punjab

Contributed by Swadesi Editorial Team

Bathinda district's canal-irrigated fields and mild autumn climate support a growing rose floriculture sector, with smallholder farmers cultivating hybrid tea and spray rose varieties in open fields and low-cost polyhouses for the Ludhiana and Delhi flower auction markets. Rose harvesting begins at 5 AM when blooms are at peak freshness, packed in newspaper bundles in thermocol boxes, and dispatched by transport overnight. The Punjab Horticulture Department promotes floriculture in Bathinda as a higher-value alternative to paddy monoculture that stresses the water table, training farmers in integrated pest management for rose crops.
