Pranahita-Chevella River Ecology and Adilabad Wildlife Corridor

The Pranahita river, formed by the confluence of the Wardha and Wainganga rivers, flows through Adilabad district before joining the Godavari — creating one of India's most biodiverse riparian corridors. The forest along the Pranahita's Telangana bank forms a wildlife corridor connecting Maharashtra's Tadoba-Andhari Tiger Reserve with Telangana's Kawal Tiger Reserve. Tigers, leopards, wild dogs, and sloth bears use this corridor for seasonal movement. The Pranahita-Chevella Eco-Sensitive Zone notification by the Ministry of Environment protects forest patches along the corridor. Traditional Gond communities' ecological knowledge of the river's seasonal flooding, fish populations, and wildlife corridors has been documented by the Telangana Forest Department.
