Bengaluru, Jul 14 (PTI) Five persons were arrested for allegedly kidnapping a gym trainer by posing as CCB police officers and threatening him to extort Rs five lakh from him, police said on Tuesday.
He was kidnapped on June 19, they said.
Police said that five people arrived in a car near City Institute here along with three other associates, entered into a criminal conspiracy and falsely impersonated CCB Police officers.
They kidnapped the gym trainer with the intention of illegally confining him and demanded Rs 5 lakh by threatening to kill him, police said, adding that the gym trainer was later let off.
A case was registered at Shankarapura Police Station here in this regard and was later transferred to the Economic Offences Wing of the Central Crime Branch (CCB), where the investigation was taken up, police said.
"During the course of investigation, CCB officers pursued various leads and, based on credible information received from informants, on June 25 apprehended the five accused who had kidnapped the gym trainer while posing as CCB police officers," a police statement said.
The police also seized the car used in the commission of the offence and five mobile phones, it said.
The accused have been remanded to judicial custody, police said. Efforts are underway to trace the three absconding accused, and further investigation is in progress. PTI AMP ADB
