North Tripura Jampui Hills Bamboo Tea Orange Heritage Tripura
Contributed by Swadesi Editorial Team
North Tripura district in the state's northeastern corner contains the Jampui Hills — the highest range in Tripura, inhabited by the Mizo (Lushai) community, where orange cultivation produces the famous Jampui orange (known for its distinctive aroma and thin skin) sold across Northeast India. The district's bamboo forests are the raw material for Tripura's bamboo handicraft industry producing agarbatti sticks (incense sticks), furniture, and bamboo-based construction material. Tea cultivation in the Teliamura and Kailashahar areas of North Tripura produces CTC tea comparable to Assam garden teas. Unakoti — a 7th–9th century rock-cut sculpture complex with hundreds of gigantic Shaivite figures carved into cliff faces — is one of Northeast India's most extraordinary archaeological sites.
