Shivalik Forest Ecology and Wildlife Una District

Una district's Shivalik foothills support the outer Himalayan forest ecosystem transitioning between Punjab plains and higher Himalayan forests. The Shivalik range's forests of Shisham, Teak, and Khair provide habitat for Sambar deer, Nilgai, wild boar, leopard, and diverse bird species. Traditional community forest management maintained these forests before formal forest department administration. Wildlife corridors connecting Shivalik forests of Una with higher ranges allow seasonal animal movement. Forest-dependent communities including scheduled tribes maintain knowledge of forest resources, wildlife behaviour, and ecological relationships.
