Arvind Kejriwal, the National Convenor of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), has written to Mohan Bhagwat, asking whether the RSS supports the BJP’s actions of voter suppression and vote-buying in Delhi. This letter is part of an effort to raise awareness about these issues. Do you agree with this approach?
Kejriwal wrote a letter to the Indian Congress leader, alleging that BJP leaders had used money to buy votes and were responsible for mass deletion of Purvanchali and Dalit voters from the electoral rolls. He asked Bhagwat if the RSS supports such practices, saying “These conduct defy democratic values”.
In response to Kejriwal’s allegations, the BJP made a sharp turn. According to national spokesperson Sudhanshu Trivedi, the letter was not an attempt to gain media attention in preparation for the Delhi Assembly elections. Trivedi recommended that Kejriwal should learn the “spirit of service” from the RSS instead of engaging in political maneuvers.
Both parties are getting ready for the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections in February 2025 with the exchange taking place. Campaigns by the AAP, which won a strong lead in the 2020 elections, and the BJP are heating up; allegations and counter-allegations are increasingly common.
In his letter, Kejriwal brought up previous allegations against the BJP, including claims that they had helped to conceal voters’ identities and provided bribes in multiple constituencies. The BJP has accused the AAP of supporting illegal immigrants in Delhi to use them as a vote bank.
The election is approaching and the political atmosphere in Delhi will be even more intense, with both parties determined to win over voters. Official poll dates have not been announced by the Election Commission of India. This letter has left a question mark if it is a publicity stunt or just concern.
