iPhone 17 Air May Replace Plus Model: 5 Big Changes Expected

Must read

Apple is reportedly planning to discontinue the iPhone Plus model in its upcoming iPhone 17 series, replacing it with a new variant named iPhone 17 Air. According to multiple sources, this change will mark a significant shift in Apple’s product strategy, targeting users who prefer slimmer, more compact devices with high-end features.

Thinner and Lighter Design

The iPhone 17 Air is expected to feature a much thinner and lighter design compared to the existing Plus models. Reports indicate that Apple has focused on making the device extremely lightweight, using a new structural frame and advanced materials. The design will likely cater to users who seek portability without compromising on screen size.

Smaller Display Size

Unlike the iPhone 15 Plus and 16 Plus models that offer a 6.7-inch display, the iPhone 17 Air may come with a slightly smaller 6.6-inch screen. Though the difference is minor, it could contribute significantly to making the device more ergonomic and easier to use one-handed. The screen is still expected to be OLED with ProMotion support.

New A19 Chipset for Enhanced Performance

Apple is set to power the iPhone 17 Air with the brand-new A19 chip, offering better energy efficiency and faster performance. This chip will likely be manufactured using the 2nm process, enabling improved multitasking and battery life. Users can expect smoother gaming, faster app launches, and more efficient background processes.

Upgraded Front Camera

Another major highlight of the iPhone 17 Air is an upgraded front camera setup. The device may feature a redesigned Dynamic Island and an improved 24MP selfie camera with enhanced low-light performance and AI features. Apple is also rumored to be working on better Face ID performance and possibly under-display facial recognition in future iterations.

Improved Battery Life and Heat Management

Thanks to the A19 chip and a more compact internal design, the iPhone 17 Air is expected to provide improved battery life. Apple is reportedly optimizing heat management as well, using a new cooling mechanism to maintain performance during extended usage, such as gaming or video recording.

Expected Launch Timeline and Availability

The iPhone 17 Air is expected to be officially launched in September 2025 during Apple’s annual event. It will likely be positioned between the standard and Pro models in the lineup, possibly replacing the Plus variant completely. Pricing details are yet to be revealed, but the Air model could fall within a mid-premium price range.
