India Responds to Pakistan’s Unwarranted Remarks on Jammu and Kashmir at UN

Must read

In a firm rebuttal, India dismissed Pakistan’s repeated references to Jammu and Kashmir at a United Nations (UN) debate on peacekeeping reforms, terming them “unwarranted.” India’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Parvathaneni Harish, reaffirmed that Jammu and Kashmir is an integral part of India and condemned Pakistan’s attempts to divert attention from the core discussions on international peacekeeping.

India’s Strong Stand at the UN

Speaking at the Security Council, Ambassador Harish criticized Pakistan for its persistent rhetoric on Jammu and Kashmir, stating, “India is compelled to note that the delegate of Pakistan has yet again resorted to unwarranted remarks on the Indian union territory of Jammu and Kashmir. Such repeated references neither validate their illegal claims nor justify their state-sponsored cross-border terrorism.”

India’s representative emphasized that Pakistan’s focus on Kashmir in a discussion unrelated to the subject was an attempt to shift attention from pressing international concerns. India called for constructive dialogue on peacekeeping while urging Pakistan to refrain from misusing UN platforms to push a political agenda.

Jammu and Kashmir: A Non-Negotiable Part of India

India reiterated its long-standing position that Jammu and Kashmir “was, is, and will always be an integral part of India.” The country has consistently rejected Pakistan’s claims, citing historical and legal grounds, including the Instrument of Accession signed in 1947.

New Delhi has also pointed to Pakistan’s continued sponsorship of terrorism in the region. The Indian government maintains that Pakistan must address its internal governance issues and focus on dismantling terrorist networks rather than interfering in India’s sovereign matters.

Pakistan’s Divisive Tactics at the UN

This is not the first time Pakistan has raised the Kashmir issue at international forums. Despite repeated rejections from the global community, Islamabad continues to bring up the matter in unrelated discussions, often in an attempt to internationalize the issue. India has countered such efforts by highlighting Pakistan’s role in fostering terrorism and human rights violations in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).

Ambassador Harish made it clear that raising Jammu and Kashmir in a debate on UN peacekeeping reforms was an attempt by Pakistan to deflect attention from its domestic failures. He urged the global community to see through these distractions and focus on genuine issues affecting international peace and stability.

The Global Response to India’s Statement

India’s strong response received widespread acknowledgment, with many UN members supporting the call for constructive dialogue on peacekeeping rather than political grandstanding. Several countries have previously acknowledged India’s concerns regarding cross-border terrorism originating from Pakistan.

The UN has also repeatedly stated that Kashmir remains a bilateral issue between India and Pakistan, as per the Shimla Agreement and the Lahore Declaration. The international community, including major powers such as the United States, France, and Russia, has supported India’s stance that Pakistan must cease its interference and instead engage in meaningful bilateral dialogue.

The Role of UN Peacekeeping in South Asia

India has been one of the largest contributors to UN peacekeeping missions worldwide, with thousands of personnel deployed across various conflict zones. As the Security Council discussed reforms in UN peacekeeping, India stressed the need for enhanced operational effectiveness, greater accountability, and the protection of peacekeepers in conflict regions.

By attempting to divert the discussion to Kashmir, Pakistan was seen as undermining efforts to improve the UN’s role in global conflict resolution. India called for a responsible approach to international diplomacy, urging nations to focus on collaborative solutions rather than political provocations.

India’s Unwavering Stance

India’s latest rebuttal at the UN reinforces its unwavering commitment to protecting its sovereignty and countering Pakistan’s baseless claims on Jammu and Kashmir. While Pakistan continues its efforts to internationalize the issue, India remains focused on maintaining peace, strengthening diplomatic ties, and ensuring security in the region.

With strong backing from global allies and an emphasis on factual narratives, India has once again demonstrated its diplomatic acumen in countering misinformation. The world has increasingly recognized that Pakistan’s tactics are aimed at deflecting attention from its own domestic challenges, making India’s position on Jammu and Kashmir even more resolute.
