An confrontation in the Kulgam region of South Kashmir on Thursday resulted in the deaths of five terrorist. Following information regarding the presence of terrorists in the region, security personnel began a search operation in the Kadder area, which paved the way for the operation. “OP KADER, Kulgam. Based on specific intelligence input regarding the presence of terrorists, a Joint Operation was launched by the Indian Army and J-K police at Kader, Kulgam. Suspicious activity was observed by vigilant troops and on being challenged, terrorists opened indiscriminate and heavy volumes of fire. Own troops effectively retaliated. Operation is in progress,” Indian Army’s Chinar Corps said in a post on X.

An encounter in the Srinagar district earlier this month killed a terrorist who was responsible for the killings of civilians at Gagangir, Ganderbal, and multiple other terror attacks in Jammu and Kashmir. Three terrorists were shot dead by security personnel during clashes in Anantnag and Khanyar, Jammu and Kashmir, last month. The bloodiest attack occurred on October 20, when militants shot seven people dead at a tunnel building site in the Ganderbal area, including two Bihar workers and a local doctor.

Farooq Abdullah, the head of the National Conference, whose son Omar Abdullah became the Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, claimed that the increase in terrorist attacks might be an attempt to topple the recently elected administration and called for an impartial investigation.
