Important cases heard by the Supreme Court on Friday, April 25: * Centre defended the amended Waqf Act in SC and opposed any “blanket stay” by the court on a “law having presumption of constitutionality passed by Parliament”.
* SC censured Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for “irresponsible” remarks on Vinayak Damodar Savarkar at a rally in Maharashtra but stayed the criminal proceedings against him.
* SC pulled up Tamil actor-turned-politician S V Shekher over his reported derogatory posts on social media against a journalist and said he “carried out a nasty campaign against a woman”.
* In a setback to the Punjab government, the SC dismissed its appeal challenging the bail granted to Shiromani Akali Dal leader Bikram Singh Majithia in a drugs case by the Punjab and Haryana High Court.
