Tarn Taran Phulkari Dupatta Bridal Embroidery
Contributed by Swadesi Editorial Team
In Tarn Taran's rural villages, phulkari dupattas are prepared by mothers and grandmothers for daughters' wedding trousseaux, with each piece taking two to six months of evening embroidery work. The dupatta uses hand-spun khaddar as ground cloth and single-strand silk floss in geometric pattern sequences passed down within weaving families of the Jat community. Tarn Taran's market at the town's Darbar Sahib complex is a weekly hub for phulkari trading between village craftswomen and wholesale buyers from Amritsar and Ludhiana.
