Rewa White Tiger Sone River Wheat Farming Vindhya

Contributed by Swadesi Editorial Team

Rewa district in the Vindhya plateau is historically famous as the origin of the white Bengal tiger — the first white tiger cub (Mohan, 1951) was found in Rewa's forests by the Maharaja and became the ancestor of all white tigers in captivity worldwide. Rewa lies in the upper Son river basin where the Son's tributaries drain the Vindhya plateau, supporting wheat cultivation on the fertile river valley soil. The district's Govindgarh palace heritage and the Son-Banas river system are eco-tourism resources, and Rewa recently became the site of one of Asia's largest solar power plants (Ultra Mega Solar Power Project, 750 MW), supplying electricity to Delhi Metro.
