Nuh in the Nuh district formerly known as Mewat of Haryana is the southernmost district of the state bordering Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh, home to the Meo Muslim community who practice traditional pottery and leatherwork crafts alongside small-scale agriculture. Mewati pottery is characterised by its blue-and-white decorative glazed ware influenced by Mughal ceramic traditions, produced by kumhar potter families in Nuh tehsil. The Nuh district has benefited from RURBAN mission and NITI Aayog backward district development programme investment in cooperative infrastructure. Mewati women have formed self-help group cooperatives for dairy and small business development supported by Haryana government NABARD schemes. Goat herding using the local Mewati goat breed which supplies both milk and meat is significant in the semi-arid pastoral economy of Nuh district. The district is also known for the Sheetla Mata fair at Gurugram held at the district boundary.
