Karimnagar Silver Filigree Jewellery Heritage of Telangana

Karimnagar district is renowned for its exceptionally fine silver filigree jewellery — intricate lacework created by twisting and braiding fine silver wire (0.3–0.5mm diameter) into elaborate patterns without any solder or backing material. The craft is practised by hereditary Kammari silver artisan families who have maintained it for over 300 years. The thin silver wire is drawn through progressively smaller dies, annealed to soften it, and then manipulated with fine-pointed pliers into geometric spirals, flowers, and flowing vine patterns. Karimnagar filigree is distinguished by its extreme delicacy, and pieces may have hundreds of twists per centimetre. The craft holds a GI tag and is displayed at national craft fairs as one of Telangana's most prestigious artisanal traditions.
