Jhajjar Goat Rearing Barbari Beetal Haryana
Contributed by Swadesi Editorial Team
Goat rearing is a supplementary livelihood in Jhajjar district's Ahirwal belt villages where smallholder and landless Jat, Ahir, and SC families keep flocks of Barbari and Beetal goats on field bunds and wasteland. Jhajjar goats are sold at weekly haat markets and fetch premium prices before Eid, Diwali, and at regional animal fairs in Gurugram and Rewari. The district's Pashu Palah Department runs vaccination camps and Beetal buck distribution programmes to improve meat and milk productivity in village goat herds, and goat rearing NGO cooperatives in Jhajjar support women-led microenterprise livelihoods.
