Jalandhar Shivalik Acacia Kikar Honey
Contributed by Swadesi Editorial Team
Beekeepers in the Shivalik foothills and canal-side kikar plantations of Jalandhar district keep Italian honeybees in wooden Langstroth hives, migrating between acacia, eucalyptus, and mustard crops across northern Punjab through the spring season. Jalandhar's acacia honey, harvested from Acacia nilotica flowers in March and April, is a water-white light honey with mild flavour that commands premium prices in health food markets. The Punjab Beekeepers Society based in Jalandhar provides training and hive subsidy to new beekeepers, supporting livelihoods in Kandi villages where crop income is less reliable.
