Ferozepur Border Region Wheat Farming Punjab

Contributed by Swadesi Editorial Team

Ferozepur district straddles the India-Pakistan border along the Sutlej river, with canal-irrigated alluvial soils producing high-yielding wheat and paddy in the kharif-rabi rotation. Farmers in Ferozepur's border belt face specific challenges: proximity to Pakistan means restricted movement near the fence, and periodic flooding from Sutlej water releases from upstream reservoirs damages standing crops. Despite these constraints, Ferozepur's Hussainiwala tehsil consistently achieves wheat yields exceeding 20 quintals per acre, and the border area has significant patriotic symbolism as the site of the Hussainiwala Bhagat Singh memorial at the Indo-Pak border.
