Dungarpur Bhil Pithora Tribal Painting Craft Rajasthan

Dungarpur district in southern Rajasthan's tribal belt is a Bhil Meena tribal homeland where the Pithora wall painting tradition — large narrative murals of horse processions, deities, and agricultural scenes painted in ochre, white, and indigo on house walls as ritual blessings — is performed by specialist Pithora painters (lakharas) who are called for ceremonies. Dungarpur's Dev Somnath temple on the Som river and the Gaib Sagar Lake with migratory birds are heritage and natural attractions, while the district's 90%+ tribal population makes it one of Rajasthan's most adivasi districts where Bhil language (Wagdi) and folk traditions are maintained.
