Chhota Udaipur Shilpgram: Tribal Craft Fair Heritage
Contributed by Swadesi Knowledge Team
Chhota Udaipur's Shilpgram tribal craft fair, held annually in February-March, is one of Gujarat's most important platforms for Adivasi artisans to showcase and sell their work. The fair brings together Rathwa pithora painters, Bhil embroiderers, Naikda bamboo weavers, Kotwalia artists, and traditional musicians from across the tribal belt of Chhota Udaipur, Dahod, Narmada, and Tapi districts. Traditional musical performance, folk dance, and demonstration workshops run alongside the craft market, creating a cultural tourism destination. The fair is organised by TRTI in partnership with state tourism and tribal departments. Prices at the fair are standardised to prevent undercutting, and artisans deal directly with buyers without middlemen. The annual event has helped several craft traditions gain national visibility and has supported income diversification for tribal families during the non-agricultural season.
