Arunachal Pradesh Kiwi Fruit Ziro Papum Pare Horticulture
Contributed by Swadesi Knowledge Team
Arunachal Pradesh, particularly the Ziro valley, Papum Pare, and Upper Siang districts, is emerging as India leading kiwi fruit (Actinidia deliciosa) growing region due to its cool sub-temperate climate and high altitude. Arunachal kiwi, grown organically without chemical pesticides, is sweeter and more aromatic than imported varieties. The state government and NABARD support kiwi cultivation through the North East Slow Food and Agrobiodiversity Society (NESFAS). Kiwi cooperatives link Apatani and Adi tribal growers in Ziro to urban fresh fruit markets in Guwahati and Delhi. Kiwi wine and jam production cooperatives add value, extending the season and increasing grower income. Arunachal kiwi has received national recognition for quality.
