Ambala Scientific Instruments Manufacturing Cluster

Ambala Cantonment is India's largest cluster for scientific, surgical, and optical instrument manufacturing, producing microscopes, surgical sets, spectacles, and laboratory equipment in hundreds of small workshops on the GT Road belt. The industry originated in the British colonial era when army demand for surveying and medical instruments seeded local craftsmanship, and post-Independence skilled craftsmen multiplied workshops to serve the growing domestic demand from schools, hospitals, and laboratories. Ambala instruments are exported to Africa, the Middle East, and Southeast Asia through trade associations, making the city India's scientific instrument export hub at affordable price points.
