Western UP's Agra-Mathura belt produces significant quantities of rapeseed-mustard (Brassica napus/juncea) as a rabi crop. The bright yellow mustard fields in December-February are iconic in the Yamuna-Ganga doab. Mustard oil is the culinary staple of UP and Bihar households. Cold-press and expeller-press kachi ghani mustard oil from Agra is sold in branded form and at local oil mills. The UP government has promoted Sarso Mahotsav (mustard festival) in the Doab to boost farm tourism and premium mustard oil branding.
