The memorial is expected to be located near Kisan Ghat, where Chaudhary Charan Singh is laid to rest, or at Rashtriya Smriti Sthal, a site reserved for the last rites of presidents, vice-presidents, and prime ministers. This initiative pays tribute to Singh’s notable contributions to India during his time in office from 2004 to 2014.
BJP President J.P. Nadda confirmed the decision, stating, “The Centre has allocated space for Manmohan Singh’s memorial and has informed his family. This is a gesture of respect for his service to the nation.” Union Minister Hardeep Puri mentioned that Rashtriya Smriti Sthal still has room for two additional memorials, suggesting potential future expansions.
Manmohan Singh was cremated with full state honors at Nigambodh Ghat in New Delhi on December 28, 2024. The ceremony was marked by a profound sense of grief and respect from all political factions, highlighting his legacy as both an economist and a leader.
The creation of this memorial will stand as a lasting tribute, honoring the life and contributions of a statesman who was instrumental in shaping modern India.
