Ekta Sthal, the final resting place of former Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, who died on December 26, 2024 at the age of 92, has been designated by the government as a location for construction. The Union Housing and Urban Affairs Ministry was involved in discussions with Singh’s family, which ultimately led to this decision.
A memorial complex, Ekta Sthal, situated near Raj Ghat in Delhi, is where the samadhi of former President Giani Zail Singh is currently located. The government intends to pay respects for Singh’ life by selecting this site. Vijay Ghat, the monument to former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri, was another potential site for the government before they completed Ekta Sthal.
The Union Housing and Urban Affairs Ministry held a high-level meeting to discuss the location of Singh’s memorial. Ekta Sthal’s selection was determined by evaluating several sites, including those within the Rashtriya Smriti Sainthal complex. Singh’s family was consulted by the government to determine their wishes. The ministry representative announced that they chose Ekta Sthal as the location for Dr.’s memorial. Manmohan Singh emphasizes his involvement in the country. Working closely with his family, we aim to make sure that the memorial accurately reflects his legacy.
The economic reforms of India were spearheaded by Manmohan Singh, who served as the Prime Minister from 2004 to 2014. A significant portion of his term was spent as an economist, while also leading the United States to a historic nuclear deal. Singh’s death was the catalyst for a week-long national mourning period, attended by hundreds of dignitaries and citizens.
The memorial at Ekta Sthal is in line with the tradition of remembrance for India’s great leaders in the Raj Ghat area. Many former Prime Ministers and Presidents have been memorialized in this area for their contributions to the nation. The government is set to form a trust that will be accountable for constructing and maintaining the memorial. This trust is intended to work with architects and designers to create a space that reflects Singh’s vision and values. It is not yet clear when the memorial will be completed but plans are being put in place to create a monument as honorable as that of our late leader.
By designating Ekta Sthal for Manmohan Singh’s memorial, citizens are not only commemorating a great leader who left his mark on modern India but also take the opportunity to exhibit their gratitude. While we anticipate the nation’s inauguration of the memorial, it represents unity and progress, reflecting Singh’s unwavering principles.
