In New Delhi, December 30, 2024, the Delhi Police deported eight Bangladeshi nationals who were residing illegally in the city’s Rangpuri area. The individuals, identified as Jahangir, his wife Parina Begum, and their six children, hailed from Kekerhat village in Madaripur district, Bangladesh.
The removal happened after a thorough check by the Vasant Kunj South police station. They visited around 400 families in Rangpuri, going door to door. When questioned, Jahangir confessed that he came into India through illegal paths and later brought his family with him. The family had gotten rid of their Bangladeshi ID papers to hide where they were really from.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Southwest) Surendra Choudhary said, “To tackle worries about illegal migrants, police checked homes one by one in Rangpuri.” The process of sending these migrants back was done with the help of the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO).
This action is part of a larger plan by the Delhi Police to find and send back illegal immigrants living in the city. Earlier this month, the Lieutenant Governor’s office announced a two-month special campaign to deal with the problem of unauthorized foreigners. Police teams from different stations have been checking slums and unapproved neighborhoods, looking at documents like voter IDs and Aadhaar cards to spot suspected Bangladeshi immigrants.
The Delhi Police is taking active steps to make sure people follow immigration rules and to tackle safety issues linked to illegal migrants. The regular checks will keep happening, and officials are asking people to help by reporting any unusual activities in their areas.
