Fete De Pondicherry is the festival that is initiated by the government of the state to celebrate the freedom it achieved from the French dominance.

People celebrate this occasion with great pomp and grandeur for a period of 3 days. Various music and dance performances are organized to celebrate Pondicherry’s rich culture. Many competitions, exhibition programs and a variety of performances together make the event a grand one. All the celebrations take place in the nearby area of the Park monument. The Park Monument is very beautifully decorated with lights which stands as the main attraction at the event.

From August 15th to August 17th, people of Pondicherry celebrate their freedom along with the Independence of India. In these days, there shall be a heavy inflow of tourists in the union territory. The place is well developed with many amenities like hotels, resorts etc. which can accommodate tourists in their respective budgets.

Traditional folk arts along with popular art forms such as Kuchipudi, Kathakali, Odisi, Bhangra, Oppana, Therukoothu, Silambattam, Karagattam and Bommalattam will be a part of the event.

On this festive occasion, the art and cultural department of Pondicherry organises a cultural parade. Eminent classical musicians and folk artists from various parts of the country take an active part in this celebration.

On the whole, Fete De Pondicherry is a cultural pageant that coincides with the liberation day and Independence day of India. Also the birth anniversary of Sri Aurobindo is held between 15th to 17th August.
