Har Ki Pauri Sacred Ghat Architecture Haridwar
Contributed by Swadesi Knowledge Team
Har Ki Pauri in Haridwar is among India's most sacred ghats where the Ganga descends from the mountains onto the plains. The ghat complex features layered stone steps descending to the river with ornate temples, rest houses (dharamshalas), and pavilions built over centuries by royal patrons and religious institutions. The Brahma Kund at Har Ki Pauri is believed to be where Brahma performed a yajna and where drops of divine nectar fell during the Samudra Manthan. Architectural elements include carved stone railings, brass handrails, and chain anchors helping pilgrims stand in the fast current. The ghats are illuminated during evening Ganga Aarti when thousands of diyas create a spectacle visible from great distances.
