Tripura Bamboo Furniture Handicraft Cooperative

Tripura produces some of India finest bamboo furniture and handicraft from the dense muli and jali bamboo groves that cover over twenty percent of the state. Artisan cooperatives in Agartala and rural Gomati, Sepahijala, and Sipahijala districts produce chairs, tables, flower pots, decorative screens, and woven panels for domestic and export markets. The Tripura Tribal Welfare Cooperative produces bamboo products under the Agartala Bamboo Craft brand. Bamboo furniture produced in Tripura is exported to West Bengal, Assam, and through NEHHDC to national craft fairs. Women self-help groups in tribal areas weave bamboo mats using tanchangya and tripuri traditional patterns. NSKFDC and NEHHDC provide raw material supply and marketing support.
