Ropar Anandpur Sahib Gurudwara Architecture Heritage

Contributed by Swadesi Editorial Team

Anandpur Sahib in Rupnagar district is one of Sikhism's holiest cities, where Guru Tegh Bahadur founded the town in 1665 and Guru Gobind Singh created the Khalsa in 1699. The Takht Sri Kesgarh Sahib gurudwara, one of Sikhism's five takhts, is built in white marble with a large golden dome and serves as the focal point of the annual Hola Mohalla festival that draws hundreds of thousands of devotees for Nihang warrior demonstrations, kirtan, and martial arts. The gurudwara's architecture combines Mughal and Sikh styles with lantern-topped domes and broad marble courtyards designed for congregational worship.
