Panchkula Shivalik Timber Wood Craft
Contributed by Swadesi Editorial Team
Panchkula district's Shivalik sal and sheesham forests historically supplied timber to Chandigarh's construction and furniture sectors, and small sawmills and wood-working units in Barwala and Raipur Rani continue to process regulated timber into doors, windows, and furniture. Forest Department permit-based timber harvesting in Panchkula's protected forests is managed to prevent overexploitation, and the wood-working artisans of the district participate in the Surajkund mela selling furniture and wood crafts. The shift to bamboo and recycled wood alternatives is encouraged by Haryana's environment department in Panchkula's craft sector.
