Contributed by Swadesi Editorial Team

Morni Hills in Panchkula district are the only hills in Haryana, rising to 1,220 metres in the Shivalik range and supporting a unique highland ecosystem of sal, khair, and rohini forest with leopard, barking deer, and an extraordinary bird diversity of over 250 species including the Kalij pheasant and hill myna. Morni is Chandigarh tricity's nearest hill getaway, with trekking paths, heritage stepwells called tikkar taal, and forest rest houses attracting weekend visitors. Haryana Tourism develops Morni as an eco-tourism destination, and local Gujjar and Pahadi community homestays provide visitor accommodation while preserving traditional hill knowledge of medicinal plants and wildlife.
