Nuh Aravalli Goat Rearing Meo Pastoral Tradition

Contributed by Swadesi Editorial Team

Goat rearing in the Aravalli scrubland of Nuh district is a central pastoral livelihood of the Meo community, with flocks of Barbari and local desi goats grazing on Aravalli scrub, seasonal grasslands, and crop residue. Nuh's goat herds are managed by boys and elderly men who move flocks between grazing sites in a semi-nomadic pattern adapted to the Aravalli's seasonal vegetation cycle. Goat sales at Nuh's weekly haat and at Gurugram's festival markets provide critical cash income; the district veterinary office runs health camps for goat flocks, reducing mortality from PPR and worm burdens that previously devastated herd capital.
