Contributed by Swadesi Knowledge Team

Mathura district in Uttar Pradesh is the birthplace of Lord Krishna and one of the holiest pilgrimage destinations in Hinduism, drawing millions of devotees annually for Janmashtami, Holi, and daily temple darshan at Shri Krishna Janmabhoomi and Dwarkadhish temple. Cooperative pujari associations manage flower, lamp, and prasad supply chains. Mathura pedha — a milk-solid sweet — is the iconic prasad of the city, made by cooperative halwai families from fresh whole milk reduced in open iron pans. Vrindavan nearby hosts over five thousand temples. Cooperative vendors organise Braj parikrama pilgrimage circuits around sacred sites. Mathura stone carving cooperatives produce black and white sandstone Krishna idols exported across India and globally.
