Mansa's farming community faced severe agrarian distress in the 2000s linked to Bt-cotton input costs and debt cycles, making it receptive to cost-reduction farming alternatives. Organic cotton from Mansa is procured by fair-trade textile companies that supply certified organic cotton yarn to ethical fashion brands in Europe and North America.
