Kannauj Ittar Attar Perfume Uttar Pradesh

Kannauj in UP is India's perfume capital, known for hundreds of years as the centre of attar (ittar) production. Master perfumers distil rose, jasmine, sandalwood, and saffron flowers using traditional deg-bhapka (copper still) hydro-distillation into sandalwood base oil. GI-tagged, Kannauj ittar is used in Islamic prayer (not alcohol-based), Ayurvedic medicine, and luxury fragrance. The mitti attar (clay-on-sandalwood) replicates the scent of first rain on dry earth. Over 200 attar manufacturing families operate in Kannauj and Samaspur.
