Gurugram Kinnow Citrus Orchards Haryana
Contributed by Swadesi Editorial Team
The canal-irrigated and tube-well-dependent southern districts of Haryana including Gurugram's rural tehsils grow kinnow mandarin oranges as a winter horticulture crop on well-drained loam soils, harvesting from December to February and selling to wholesale markets in Delhi and Chandigarh. Gurugram's kinnow orchards are smaller-scale operations compared to Punjab's major kinnow belts in Abohar and Fazilka, but they provide income diversification for Gurugram's peri-urban farmers facing land acquisition pressure from the city's expanding built-up area. The fruit is sold at the Gurugram fruit mandi and to retail vendors who supply the corporate office canteen and hotel market.
