Ferozepur Handloom Cotton Weaving Traditional

Contributed by Swadesi Editorial Team

Ferozepur district's handloom weavers, many from the Khatri and Julaha communities, weave cotton fabric on throw-shuttle pit looms producing the coarse cotton used for khes, daris, and floor durries sold at Ferozepur's cloth market. The cotton durries of Ferozepur, woven in geometric stripes with locally dyed cotton weft on natural warp, have a strong rural market for floor covering and outdoor seating at village events. The handloom sector in Ferozepur receives support from the Handloom and Textile Department's master weaver programme that provides design training and raw material subsidy to cooperatives.
