Dwarka Shankh Conch Ritual Culture Gujarat

Contributed by Swadesi Knowledge Team

Dwarka, one of the four Hindu sacred dhams, is associated with deep conch shell culture. The shankh (conch) is blown at dawn at the Dwarkadhish temple and used in ritual worship across Gujarat. Fishermen and artisans in Dwarka and Bet Dwarka collect Turbinella pyrum conch from the Arabian Sea. The ornate carved Panchajanya conch, said to be Lord Krishna's personal conch, is integral to Vaishnava religious practice. Conch collection now faces sustainability concerns due to overharvesting.
