Dhurrie Flatweave Rug Weaving — Rajasthan
Contributed by System
Dhurrie (durrie) is a flat-woven cotton or wool rug handwoven on a pit loom in Rajasthan (Bikaner, Jaipur, Barmer) and Punjab. Unlike pile carpets, dhurries have no knots — weft is beaten tightly to cover warp, producing geometric or floral patterns in bright colours. Traditional cotton dhurries use natural/chemical dyes; wool dhurries from Bikaner use Chokla sheep wool. GI-tagged Rajasthan Dhurrie is exported globally via DC Handicrafts. Home décor export demand from USA, UK, and Germany is strong. KVIC runs dhurrie weaving training centres and cooperative marketing.
