Rabi Wheat Cultivation in Dausa District
Contributed by Swadesi Knowledge Team
Dausa district's plains along the Banas river system support extensive rabi wheat cultivation from November to March. Farmers predominantly grow HD-2781 and HD-3086 varieties suited to Rajasthan's dry winter conditions. Canal irrigation from the Bisalpur and Morel dam systems supplements well irrigation. Traditional wheat varieties like Bansi and Kathia, once common, are now preserved by a few heritage seed-keeper families. Wheat is threshed by tractor-drawn combine harvesters and stored in pucca kothi (mud-plastered granaries) at village level. Wheat straw (parali) is an important animal fodder resource, with surplus baled and sold to dairy farmers. District-level mandi committees in Dausa town and Lalsot serve as price-discovery centres, and MSP procurement by NAFED and FCI provides income floors for smallholders.
