Angul NALCO Hirakud Power Aluminium Smelting Odisha

Contributed by Swadesi Editorial Team

Angul district contains the National Aluminium Company (NALCO) aluminium smelter and refinery complex at Nalconagar — one of Asia's largest aluminium producers — drawing on bauxite mined at Panchpatmali in Koraput and power from Hirakud and Talcher thermal stations to smelt primary aluminium that supplies auto, cable, and packaging industries. Angul's Talcher coalfield is one of India's largest coal reserves, supplying Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL) coal to power plants across eastern India. The district's industrial development coexists with the Satkosia Tiger Reserve — a narrow sal forest gorge of the Mahanadi that connects the eastern and western wildlife corridors and hosts gharial and Gangetic dolphin in the river.
